Gilad Shalit, Israeli soldier held by Hamas, to be released as part of deal, Netanyahu announces
JERUSALEM — Israel and the militant Islamist group Hamas announced Tuesday that they had agreed on an exchange that would free at least 1,000 Palestinian prisoners in return for Staff Sgt. Gilad Shalit, an Israeli soldier held captive in the Gaza Strip for more than five years.
